Tribute to Selena

A Tejano diva preternatural,
A spring flower she had bloomed,
Inimitable buds full and bursting,
Corollas full of reds and blues.

Like the Hanging Gardens of Babylon,
A Seventh Wonder she was sown.
A Corpus Christi flower,
Amongst the roses she was born.

When her voice would light our ears,
She would turn and face the sun.
Her fingers delicately twirling
Inducing smiles from the sun.

Roses joined in joyous chorus,
The petals unfolding to our delight,
In songs of love and songs of old,
And songs of unrequited love.

Then, a fateful fall would come,
And our beloved she was gone.
The petals had grown and wilted,
Our melancholy had just begun.

Watching the movie series of Selena Quintanilla on Netflix, brought back fond memories of seeing her in concert. Tejano music or Tex-Mex music was the rage back home in Texas when I was growing up, and the Tejano music Prima Madonna was at the top of her game. I know decades later, she is still adorated by her fans, myself included. Her legend continues…

Our meloncholy had just begun.
